Term | Meaning |
---|---|
CMS | Content Management System. Skykit Beam is a CMS—it's the system you use to manage the content you play on your displays. |
code bundle | A code bundle is quite literally a "bundle" of files that allows you to display dynamic web content locally on your Skykit player. With code bundles, you can deploy HTML, CSS, and JavaScript files to create fully-customized web pages and web apps. See Code Bundle Overview for more information. |
collection | A feature in Beam that allows you to curate multiple playlists, programs, and content items and play them one after another. Similar to a playlist, but allows you to include playlists as media items. See What is a Collection? for more information. |
content | The media, such as images, videos, dashboards, or slide shows, that you display on your screens. |
content item | An individual piece of content—for instance, an image, video, web view, code bundle, or dashboard connection—that is listed in the Content menu in Beam and that can be played on your displays or added to a program or playlist. |
content manager window | The window in Skykit Beam where you can configure the settings (such as duration or transition effects) for a specific content item. You can also delete the item from this window, and in some cases you can edit or update the item. See Content Item Manager Tour for more information. |

Term | Meaning |

dashboard connections | A way of connecting Skykit Beam with your dashboard tools so you can display the data on your screens. See Creating a Dashboard Connection in Skykit Beam for more information. |
data visualization | The graphical representation of information and data using visual elements such as charts, graphs, and maps. |
desk booking | Allows hybrid or remote employees to reserve a desk when they need to come into the office. |
digital signage | Displaying digital images, video, web pages, restaurant menus, and other content on display screens that are viewable by a large number of people. |
display | The monitor, screen, or tablet that displays your Beam content or is used for desk booking or employee or visitor check-in. |
drawer | In Skykit Beam, a drawer is a panel that slides in from the right edge of the screen when you select a button or icon. A drawer might contain status information (for example, the Notifications drawer) or settings you can configure for a content item, program, or playlist. It can also contain links to additional resources (for example, the Help Center drawer). |

grab bars | Two rows of small gray dots next to an entry in a playlist or collection. You can "grab" these bars with your mouse and drag the entry to another spot in the list. |

kiosk display | A touchscreen display outside a conference room, desk space, or entrance that Skykit Turf users can interact with to check in to an office or book a room or desk space. |

MDM | Mobile Device Management. Skykit Control is an MDM system. |
media player | A hardware device (such as an SKP3 or SKD10) that connects to your displays and allows you to display your digital signage. |
menu | In Skykit products, a menu is a list of items or commands you can choose from. In Skykit Beam, for instance, the Content menu is a list of all the content items you have uploaded into Beam. |

navigation bar | In Skykit products, a navigation bar is a group of links to the main features and menus in the application, usually located on the left side of the application. |

Term | Meaning |

OTA | Stands for "over the air." Wireless (over-the-air) delivery of new software, firmware, or other data to mobile devices. When OTA updates are available, you can install them in your firmware without having to manually connect to a network. |

playlist | A group of content items and programs that play in rotation. |
program | In Beam, programs provide a way for users to quickly and easily assemble different content items into a predefined template layout. |

Term | Meaning |

RSS feed | RSS (Really Simply Syndication) is a web feed that lets users access updates to websites in a standardized, computer-readable format. By subscribing to an RSS feed, users can keep track of many different websites in a single news aggregator, which constantly monitor sites for new content. |

Term | Meaning |
---|---|
sharing tenant | A tenant that has permissions to share programs and playlists with other tenants. Sharing tenants must be set up by Skykit's support team. Content sharing is only available to customers with the Enterprise plan. Only users with Administrator or Manager roles in the sharing tenant are able to manage and share content. See Sharing Programs Across Tenants for more information. |
space booking | Allows Skykit Turf users to reserve a conference room or boardroom (the space) either through a calendar app or directly from the Turf display. Also allows others to see when a particular space is reserved or currently in use. |

Term | Meaning |

task | In Beam, tasks allow you to immediately send commands to your displays. |
tenant | A grouping of devices that provides a way of managing content and access to Skykit products. A company with offices in three different cities, for example, might have three tenants, each one representing an office. |
ticker | A content ticker scrolls across a portion of your display (usually the bottom portion), similar to chyrons that scroll across the bottom of the TV screen during a news program. |

Term | Meaning |

viewing tenant | A tenant with which a program or playlist is shared. Users in viewing tenants can only view shared content, play it on a display, or add it to a playlist or collection; they cannot share content themselves or edit shared content. See Sharing Programs Across Tenants for more information. |

Term | Meaning |

web feed | A pre-designed information feed providing information from several different categories (for example, weather, finances, or RSS feeds). |
web view | A web view allows you to display webpages in real time on your displays. This makes displaying items like interactive websites and kiosk applications quick and easy. |
web capture | A screen shot of a webpage. |
