# P7 Setup Guide

This article provides you with the steps you need to complete to get your new P7 Media Player up and running.

## Hardware and Tools

**What's in the box**:

- 1 P7
- 1 remote
- 2 AAA batteries (for the remote)
- Power adapter
- HDMI cable
- Double-sided velcro

**What you need**:

- Display monitor with an HDMI port
- Internet connection (Wi-Fi or Ethernet)
- Ethernet cable (if you're connecting via Ethernet)

## **Device Setup**

#### **Step 1 - Connect HDMI cable**

Connect your Skykit Media Player to the display using the HDMI cable.

#### **Step 2 - Connect power cable**

Connect your Skykit Media Player to power using the power adapter.

#### **Step 3 - Connect to the Internet**

When your device has powered on, use the remote and follow the onscreen prompts to connect to an available Wi-Fi network. You can also use a mouse or a keyboard as a replacement for the remote.

If you're using Ethernet, simply plug in your Ethernet cable to the back of your device.

#### **Step 4 - Software updates**

Once you have connected your device to the Internet, it will check for any software updates.

#### **Step 5 - Pair your device**

After your device has updated, a **Pairing Code** is displayed on the screen. You will need this code to pair your device with Skykit Beam. See [Pairing a Display in Skykit Beam](/v1/docs/pairing-a-display-in-skykit-beam) for instructions.

**Note**: You will **not** need to perform this step if you purchased your device from Skykit directly.

#### **Step 6 - Display content**

Go to [beam.skykit.com](https://beam.skykit.com/) and log in. Once you have logged in, select **Displays** from the navigation bar to see your device(s). Select the display you want to update to open the **Displays** detail window and then select the **Change** button to choose the content you would like to display.

**HDMI-CEC on your display (important behavior to understand)**  
Many displays ship with HDMI-CEC enabled by default. That’s required for Skykit’s CEC power control to work — **but it can behave inconsistently when someone manually turns the display off using the TV remote or the display power button**. On some models, the display will enter standby (often showing a red light), and **may not reliably wake when scheduled content resumes**, even though the Skykit player sends the wake command.  
  
**Best practice:** If you’re using Skykit’s scheduled CEC power control, enable CEC on the display and **avoid manually powering the display off/on**. If your display doesn’t reliably wake during testing, try the alternate command type (Standby vs Power On/Off). If issues persist, consider disabling CEC and using another power-management approach for that display model.
