# What are managed and device apps?

Managed apps are those that are already in the Skykit system. Device apps are not in the Skykit repository but can be downloaded and installed.

Installing device apps can lead to unexpected issues, so as a best practice Skykit recommends that you do not install device apps unless absolutely necessary.
