🚀 How to Launch the Control App to exit kiosk mode & Disable Kiosk Mode in Skykit Devices

When managing Skykit devices, you may need to temporarily or permanently exit Kiosk Mode to access the Android settings. Here’s a simple guide:

Option 1: Temporary Access (Launch Control App)

Use this method for quick troubleshooting. The device will automatically return to Kiosk Mode if it reboots or if the Skykit app is relaunched.

On the Physical Device (No Internet Required)

  1. Restart the device

  2. Tap (on a touch screen) or click (with the device remote or a USB keyboard or mouse) the lock icon that appears on the lower right of the screen

  3. Enter the device password

  4. The Control App will launch → access Android settings

Don’t know your device password?

This information can be found on the Status tab in Control.

Remote Access via Control (Device Must Be Online)

  1. In Control, check the box next to the device(s) in the list view

  2. Click the Bulk Actions button

  3. Select Start Control from the dropdown

  4. Click Send Command

  5. The Control App will launch → access Android settings

Alternatively, the Control app can be launched from the device details view. Navigate to the Apps tab, select Launch for the Control app, and confirm the action in the pop-up dialog by clicking Yes. This method enables launching Control for an individual device.

Option 2: Persistent Exit (Disabling Kiosk Mode Completely)

This change remains active after a reboot until you manually re-enable Kiosk Mode in Control. This is not recommended in most cases.

For One Device

  1. Log into Control

  2. Click on the desired device

  3. Toggle Kiosk Lock Mode → Off

  4. Save configuration

  5. Reboot

  6. On the Skykit Display swipe up (from bottom) or down (from top left) to exit Skykit apps and access Android settings

For Multiple Devices

  1. Log into Control

  2. Select devices with checkboxes

  3. Go to Bulk Action → Settings and Configurations

  4. Set Kiosk Lock Mode → Off

  5. Update & reboot (via Bulk Command, device detail, or physical power cycle)

  6. Swipe up or down to access the native Android OS

✅ With these steps, you can either temporarily launch the Control App or fully disable Kiosk Mode depending on your needs.

Launching the Control app is a way to temporarily take a device out of kiosk mode in order to access Android settings, etc. But, once Skykit applications start again, the device will be in kiosk mode. Disabling kiosk mode in Control UI provides permanently takes the devices out of kiosk mode to use native Android functionality like the navigation bar to access settings, or launch other apps, etc. Users will need to reenable to kiosk mode in Control UI to restore device security.

Important note: We strongly suggest customers keep devices in kiosk mode to maintain security and prevent unauthorized entities from exploiting the system to run apps or content not owned by the customer
