The Skykit App SDK lets your interactive app run on Skykit screens and show content from Skykit Beam inside it. Your app keeps its logic and design. Your team updates the content in Beam, without a developer.
When to use it
- You have a kiosk, product finder, check-in or wayfinding app
- Updating the promotions or messages inside it needs a developer
- You want the screen to react to what's happening, such as playing Beam content after the screen has been idle or outside business hours
How it works
- Your app runs on the Skykit player. It handles the interactive experience, like browsing products or checking in.
- Beam supplies the content. Your team manages playlists in Beam as usual.
- Your app decides when Beam content plays. For example, after a short idle period, the app switches to your Beam playlist, then returns when someone touches the screen.
- Skykit manages the device. Fleet health, updates and security run through Skykit Control.
Examples
- Retail: a product finder shows seasonal promotions when no one is using it. Marketing updates the promotions in Beam.
- Visitor check-in and wayfinding: a lobby kiosk handles check-in or directions, and plays announcements and events when idle.
- Healthcare: IT keeps full control of the secure check-in app. Clinic teams update hours, doctor spotlights and reminders in Beam, without touching the app.
Do we need a developer?
Someone builds the app connection once. That can be your developers, an agency, or Skykit. The SDK uses standard web technology (React), so most web developers, and AI coding tools, can work with it. After that, day-to-day content updates happen in Beam.
Getting started
The App SDK is in early access, and we're working with a small group of customers. Contact your account manager or Skykit Support to talk about your app and whether early access fits.
